Pond Filters

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIO-FILTERS

There are three basic ways filters can be fed from the pond, and this will affect the positioning of the filter.

Gravity Return Filters.
These filters are pump fed with gravity outlet. These will require a pump in the pond that feeds the filter. Water will then simply pass through the filter and return to the pond under gravity. This means the filter outlet must be higher than the point at which you want the water to return.

Pressure Filters.
Pressure Filters are ideal for small to medium size pools and are directly fed from a pump in the pond. However since the filter is a sealed unit the water is still under pressure when leaving the filter, allowing much more flexibility in the positioning of the unit.

Gravity Fed Filters.
Gravity Fed Filters are ideal for larger Koi ponds.

Gravity Return filter Units - Mechanical -

.

The water passes through three layers of foam. The first is fibre gauze that traps the larger particles. The other two are open cell reticulated foam, one 25mm thick and the other 50mm thick. These will remove most suspended solids from the water.

Bio Filters – Biological -

In order for your pond to maintain water of a high quality, it is essential to ensure that a biological filtration system is used. Ultra Zap manufactures 4 sizes of Low Pressure Biological filters.

Filter Brushes – Mechanical -

Filter brushes are widely used throughout the aquatic industries and have obtained a reputation as a media that provides excellent mechanical and biological filtration. Filter brushes can be used as a mechanical pre-filter prior to other finer mechanical or biological filtration by hanging them in a single row.

Pressurised Pond Bio Filter -

Pressure bio filters need a pump head to push the water through the system.
